Assignment 11, In Progress Research Paper

Well, this week was busy writing all three sections for the 5 part research paper. I was going to cut and copy all of the written work here, but I thought it would be cleaner to upload all three sections to my website and create a webpage. You can open or download the introduction section, the results section, and the discussion section from the webpage. Please visit my webpage at ETEC 543 webpage.

This webpage has a link for the introduction section, the results section and the discussion section.

Next week, my plan is to upload the entire paper to my website. Then you will be able to download the entire research paper containing all 5 parts.

James,
Thanks for your kind words about my blog post.
I did find the venting very therapeutic.

You on the other hand used your progress report to actually do something useful, namely, work on the study and share your process with us. Thank you for doing that, it’s very helpful
.
As I read your progress report I found myself nodding and saying “YES, that’s it! “ And “It’s like that!” I like the way you framed your introduction by presenting a broad philosophical point of view and asking thought-provoking questions such as:
“Can too much technology be overwhelming and harmful? “
I totally agree with your observation that
“Some adult learners are frustrated because children can operate a computer where they are still lacking many of the basic computer skills”.

Your results section was very clear and well-organized. I tried not to read it too closely so as not to be influenced in creating my own results section, but I got a sense of the overall organization and structure which was very helpful to see.

In your discussion you waxed philosophical in pondering the deeper implications of the results findings. I really like the way you presented a summary of the whole research report :
“It is clear that there exists a relationship between prior experience with non-music podcasts and a preference for portable media in online learning. The most preferred technology for communication between peers and the professors is email. Finally, adult learners do prefer more control in organizing, grading and media choices in their online classes.”

Thanks for being so helpful to the whole class, so well-organized and for showing us how it’s done!

Great job on your progress! In the discussion you mentioned how new media choices & general skills will change in 10 years. I wonder how the results will change if the same or modified survey was taken in 10 years? Will email continue to be preferred? What new media will be invented and implemented?

I appreciated your Discussion section. You did a great detailed analysis of the results and offered some different perspectives on experience with technology and how it will shape our learning in the future. I definitely see generational differences in attitudes to technology and not just because of familiarity. As an old person I absolutely can not imagine wanting to publish my exploits on My Space, but my children do. I can't tell you how many things I found out about my own teenagers online that I would NEVER have told my mom, much less the world. I think those attitudes carry on into preferences for learning, and working, and living. It will be a fascinating journey for all of us.You did a great job of explaning how class organization is important, not just in the use of technology, but in general. Thank you for your efforts this quarter, I liked your style.
